风力发电绿色清洁，而且适用范围广是一种相当不错的可再生能源，不过考虑到现有的风力涡轮机，它同样也具有占地大，容易破坏景观产生噪音等不容忽视的问 题。法国新能源公司NewWind推出了一种新型的树状风力发电机组，造型美观占地少，同时不会发出巨大的噪音，克服了传统风力涡轮机的各种局限性。
该机组名为Wind Tree，顾名思义它采用了数状造型，每个枝节中分布着小型的垂直风力涡轮叶片，它整体有11米高，直径约为8米，分布着72个小型垂直涡轮叶片。由于采用了轻量设计，即使在低风速下，该机组也能发电。每棵树状机组最大能够产生3.1千瓦的电量，运行时可以做到无声无息。NewWind预测在广泛适用后，每棵“树”造价约为36500美元，每年大约可以运行280天，在几年内就能收回成本。
