《可再生能源法》将风电作为鼓励发展的重点，因此国内很多省份都在大力增加对风电的投资。到2015年，风电装机容量将达到1500万kW，2020年，装机容量规划将达到4000~6000万kW。很多省、自治区都做了大规模发展风力发电的规划。
核电和风电属于新兴产业，需要新材料、新工艺、新技术、新装备。机床工具行业应当重视核电和风电的这种需要，作为重点服务对象。核电和风电装备制造需要的机床工具特点是：大规格、大吨位、高刚度、高可靠性。
